Men's Tennis Sends Five Players to the Sherwood Collegiate Cup

MALIBU, Calif. Playing in its first local tournament of the fall season, the Pepperdine men's tennis team will compete in the Sherwood Collegiate Cup, starting this Friday.

Including Pepperdine, 13 Division I schools will be represented at the three-day tournament, which will be held at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Players compete in two rounds of singles play and one round of doubles play on Friday, then one round of singles play and two rounds of doubles play on Saturday. Both championship rounds will be held on Sunday. The event will not offer live scores or video, but result links will be posted on the men's tennis team's schedule page on pepperdinewaves.com.

Five Pepperdine players will compete in the event: David Fix, Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida, Photos Photiades, Lasse Poertner and Hugh Winter. No NCAA Tournament bids will be awarded at this tournament. The Sherwood Collegiate Cup is the fall season debut for all four of the Waves scheduled to compete. All four players are entered in the singles and doubles draws.

Of the five players scheduled to compete, Ribeiro de Almeida will be making his collegiate debut. Ribeiro de Almeida enters 2025-26 as the No. 90 player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and the No. 5 newcomer in Division I.

Pepperdine's next collegiate tournament will be the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships, held in San Diego, Calif. from Oct. 9-12. All schedule updates can be found on the men's tennis team's schedule page at pepperdinewaves.com.

Pepperdine men's tennis has a longstanding tradition of success, highlighted by an NCAA Championship in 2006, which came 54 years after its first NAIA Championship in 1952. Robbie Weiss recorded the program's first NCAA singles championship in 1988 after the program saw doubles national championships in 1984 and 1985. 44-time WCC Champions, Pepperdine has reached 40 NCAA Tournaments and six NCAA Regionals in its history with 53 total All-Americans.
