STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team scored three early, unable to add to it past the fourth inning in the 3-7 loss.
Â
The Waves (11-38, 6-13) had four hits on the night, compared to the Tigers' (19-31, 7-12) 12, leaving limited opportunities to score throughout the game.
Â
Â
BIG WAVES
Â
Senior infielder Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.) tied his career-high RBIs, knocking in four in the first and third inning, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Â
Junior catcher Max Aude (Woodland Hills, Calif.) bunted in the fourth to give the Waves the lead, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Â
Â
RECAP
Â
Striking first, the Waves scored in the top of the first thanks to a hard hit ball by Nunez down the third base line to score senior infielder Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) who had reached earlier on a walk. No response from the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning made it a 1-0 game in favor of Pepperdine after one.
Â
The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring two on two hits to make it 1-2.
Â
The lead change did not last for long as Pepperdine took it right back in the top of the fourth with a score of 3-2. With two on after a single by freshman infielder Danny Cook (Monument, Colo.) and senior utility player Ansrew Savage (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) being hit by a pitch, both found their way home on a bunt by Aude.
Â
Once again, the lead change did not last long and one scored by the Tigers tied it up at 3-3 after a full four innings.
Â
Pepperdine failed to score in the remaining five innings as Pacific took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back, scoring a total of four more to win the series opener 3-7.
