STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team came back from a four-run deficit in the middle of the game, but could not finish the job in the 6-7 loss at Klein Family Field.

The Waves (11-39, 6-14) secured 10 hits in comparison to the Tigers' (20-31, 8-12) seven, but three costly errors on the defensive side of the ball would make the difference in the second game of the series.

BIG WAVES

Graduate outfielder Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo.) was 2-for-3 at the plate tonight with two doubles and an RBI.

Freshman designated hitter Danny Cook (Monument, Colo.) led the team with two RBIs, securing a hit in the eighth inning.

RECAP

Getting down early, Pepperdine had a 0-4 hole to dig out of after two innings. Cutting the deficit in half in the fourth inning, Pemberton had his first double of the night to drive home graduate outfielder Nick Upstill (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Immediately after, Cook had his first RBI on a sacrificial fly to bring senior infielder Julian Nunez home (Encinitas, Calif.) to make it a 2-4 ball game in the middle of the fourth.

Although Pacific added one back in the latter half of the inning, the Waves swiftly, tying the game in the top of the fifth. Four hits, including a double by Nunez in right field, scored three to tie the game 5-5 at the end of the fifth inning. Two walks and a defensive error in the sixth allowed the Tigers to take the lead, with a home run in the seventh extending the home team advantage 7-5 at the end of seven.

Closing the gap, Pemberton scored on a single by Cook, but the freshman was stranded in the eighth and no added runs in the ninth closed the game out with Pepperdine losing 6-7.
