Career Outputs Continue to Lead Waves Through WCC Tournament

Box Score LAS VEGAS – A career night by yet another Wave– this time Stefan Todorovic– led the Pepperdine men's basketball team to a 77-73 win over fifth-seeded Oregon State Saturday night in the conference tournament's third round game.

The Waves will take on fourth-seeded Santa Clara Sunday in the WCC Championship quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m., set to air on ESPN2. It is Pepperdine's sixth trip to the tournament quarterfinals in the last 10 seasons, including a stretch of four straight years (2018-21).

BIG WAVES
  • Stefan Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia/SMU/USF) delivered a new career high of 34 points on 55.6% field goal and three-point shooting while connecting on all nine free throw attempts. The 30-piece is now the senior's fourth of the season.
  • Moe Odum (Bronx, N.Y./Pacific) recorded yet another double-double in 17 points and 10 assists– his seventh game this year in double-digit assists.
  • Danilo Dozic (Belgrade, Serbia) had eight points that included two huge threes in the second half to keep the Beavers at bay. In addition, he wrapped up two rebounds, blocked two shots and grabbed a steal.

KEY STATS
  • The Waves came into tonight's game 0-12 when their opposition had more players in double-figure scoring but overcame the odds as only two Pepperdine players entered double-digits, while OSU recorded four.
  • Pepperdine committed less turnovers than the Beavers (7-9) and capitalized more off of OSU mistakes (11-5).
  • The Waves outshot Oregon State 50-44 percent from the field, 40-32 percent from beyond the arc and 74-72 percent from the charity stripe.

RECAP
Oregon State hit back-to-back threes to open the game, but Stefan Todorovic and Dovydas Butka responded quickly for the Waves. Todorovic hit the first of his four threes of the stanza just after the first media timeout and the long-range gates broke open for the Serbian and Moe Odum. The pair embarked on a 13-3 run and brought Pepperdine into the lead at the 11-minute mark before seeing Odum drain a dagger three to put the Waves up by four. The Beavers' inside game helped keep them neck-and-neck and early foul allowed the lane to open up for OSU. Todorovic would hit three-straight free throws to tie things back up, but a last second jumper by Oregon State gave them the slight 40-38 advantage at the half.

Danilo Dozic opened the second half with a three and the Waves were off to the races. OSU took a short lead within the opening minutes but another pair of Odum and Todorovic shots began the Pepperdine lead. In fact, 22 of the 36 points scored in the second half by the good guys were put in by either player. Pepperdine's lead capped at 11 points with about six minutes to play, but the Beavs put together an 8-0 run that brought them back to within two in crunch time. Two Odum free throws iced the game however and sent the Waves into the WCC tournament quarterfinals at a 77-73 final score.
