IRVINE, Calif. — Running seven new top-10 times, the Pepperdine track team competed at the Vince O'Boyle Track Classic, which was held at UC Irvine on Saturday.

The Waves won the women's 1,500 meters thanks to sophomore Lizzy Crawford and the team had five top-three finishes. 

Running her first 1,500 meters of the season, the star sophomore Crawford nearly broke the school record with her time of 4:32.68, which is less than five seconds off Olivia Miller's record of 4:28.31. Hannah Bruner was not far behind her in second place, clocking a 4:38.49 in the longest race of the afternoon.

In the men's 1,500-meter race, freshman Elijah Gentry broke into the top-10 rankings and placed second with his time of 3:54.60 — the fastest time by Pepperdine this season. He edged out teammate Gordy Nilsen, who now ranks fifth all-time in program history with his time of 3:55.36.

In the 100-meter high hurdles, Maddy Ortman PRed with her time of 15.38 seconds, moving her into a tie for third all-time at Pepperdine with Tori Occhipinti. Ortman's race was the fastest time in the event by a Wave in six years. Then in the 400-meter hurdles, Ortman ran another personal best time of 1:04.56, which is the third fastest in program history.

Elsewhere in the sprints, Ava Maly moved up to sixth in program history in the 100-meter-dash with her time of 12.41 seconds, which was the fastest time of the day for Pepperdine.

The women's 4x400-meter relay capped off the meet by breaking into the program's top-five leaderboard with their time of 3:58.79. Two teams went under the meet record, while the Waves placed seventh out of 12 teams.

From here, the Waves head south to UC San Diego's Triton Invitational on April 4-5, which will be the last chance for the team to improve before one of the biggest meets in the nation: Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational.
