PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Pepperdine women's golf team is tied for 3rd after one round of the Ping/ASU Invitational. The Waves posted a 2-under 286 on the 6,586-yard par-72 Papago Golf Club on Friday.
 
The Waves were led by Jeneath Wong who is tied for 7th after tabbing three-straight birdies to end her round and finish with a 2-under 70. She was one of 14 players in the 78-player field to shoot under par in the opening round.
 
#9 Arizona State is leading the tournament after earning a 15-under 273, while #12 Northwestern is in second with a total score of 279 (-9). The 42nd-ranked Waves are tied for third with #25 UCLA, and they are ahead of #21 Kansas and #34 California.
 
PLAYER SCORES

• Junior Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) was 1-over through 15 holes, but found a groove and birdied the final three holes to finish with a 2-under 70. Wong is tied for 7th after 18 holes of play.
• Senior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) posted a 1-under 71 with two birdies and is tied for 14th after the first round.
• Junior Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) tabbed an even 72 with five birdies on Friday. Zhu is tied for 20th heading into the second round.
• Freshman Eunseo Choi (Auckland, New Zealand) carded a 1-over 73 with three birdies on Friday and is tied for 26th. 
• Freshman Grace Anderson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) is tied for 41st after posting a 2-over 74 with two birdies during her opening round.
• Playing as an individual, freshman Nishna Patel (Mumbai, India) is tied for 74th after a 9-over 81 on Friday.
