RECAP
Â
Friday was a game of aces. Pepperdine's Scavone against Tulane's Luc Fladda turned out to be a showdown for the majority of the game. Outside of one run given up on either side in the first inning, both pitchers put up zeros for six innings.
Â
After Tulane scored in the top half of the opening inning, junior catcher
Max Aude (Woodland Hills, Calif.) responded by raking in his sixth RBI of the season after three straight singles by senior infielder
Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.), redshirt sophomore infielder
Max Bernal (Clovis, Calif.) and senior outfielder
Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo.).
Â
The next five innings would be a clinic by Scavone, allowing just two hits in six innings. Sophomore Colin Valentine (Dallas, Texas) came in to pitch for the eighth and ninth innings, allowing just one hit to give his team the opportunity to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Â
Freshman outfielder
Brodey Bitove (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and senior infielder
Cam Conley (Lincoln University, Pa.) started the inning off with back-to-back walks. Upstill was next, loading the bases with a perfect bunt laid between the first baseman and pitcher. Cardinale came up to bat with bases loaded ready to swing. On a 2-1 count, the junior sent a bullet past the Green Wave shortstop for a single, scoring Bitove.
Â
Pepperdine's second win of the season comes in a thrilling walk-off fashion 2-1.
