Grechkina's NCAA Championship Run Ends in Round of 32

ORLANDO, Fla. — Pepperdine women's tennis Anastasiia Grechkina fell in the round of 32 at the NCAA Division I Singles Championship Wednesday from the USTA National Campus.

Grechkina fell in two sets (4-6, 3-6) to Auburn's Ava Esposito.

The frist set was played on serve until Grechkina got the first break in the seventh game to go ahead 4-3. Esposito answered with a break to even up the set, and got another break on a deuce point to secure the set by a 6-4 mark.

Esposito earned her third straight break to open the second set in game two, with Grechkina battling back to break on deuce to bring the set to 2-1 in Esposito's favor. The breaks continued, as Esposito went ahead 3-1, as the set was playing on serve to the conclusion as Esposito came away with the 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Grechkina wraps up a successful fall season which saw her achieve a 17-3 overall singles record. She claimed both the singles and doubles crown at the Battle in the Bay Classic in September before winning the ITA Southwest Regional Singles title in October to earn her berth into the NCAA Singles Championship. She tabbed a first round victory over No. 9 Anastasiia Lopata earlier this week to reach the round of 32.

After entering the fall ranked No. 37 in the ITA singles rankings, Grechkina earned seven ranked victories throughout the fall campaign.
