Men's Basketball Set to Host Northern Colorado

MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine men's basketball (2-1) is set to host Northern Colorado (2-0) Saturday night from Firestone Fieldhouse. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.

An Orange Out at Firestone Fieldhouse, the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free orange T-Shirt. Tickets are available for purchase here.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Pepperdine defeated Lincoln by a score of 113-76 Tuesday night in Malibu.
  • Danilo Dozic led the way with a career-high 23 points on 11-for-13 shooting from the field.
  • Yonatan Levy notched his first double-double as a Wave with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Multiple Waves also recorded a new career-high scoring total, including Luka Vudragovic (13), David Mager (13) and Stefan Cicic (9).
  • The Waves shot over 60-percent from the field for just the ninth time since the 2013-14 season.
  • Pepperdine also recorded 26 assists as a team for the seventh time since the 2007-08 season.
  • The 113 points scored marked the 4th-highest total in a game since the turn of the century.

CONTROLLING THE BOARDS

  • The Waves currently rank fourth in the country in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 20 through the first three games this season.
  • Pepperdine's 26 offensive rebounds last time out against Lincoln marked the second-highest single game total in a game this season (Florida, 28 vs. North Florida).
  • Stefan Cicic posted six offensive boards to lead the way against Lincoln.
  • Four Waves are currently averaging at least two offensive boards per game this season in Cicic, Yonatan Levy, Danilo Dozic and Styles Phipps.

SHARING THE BALL

  • The Waves had 26 assists last time out versus Lincoln, marking the most assists in a game from any team in the West Coast Conference this season.
  • It marks back-to-back seasons in which Pepperdine has had a 25-plus assist effort as a team.
  • Six Waves recorded multiple assists in the effort.
  • Styles Phipps led the way with a career-high nine dimes.

STYLES ON DISPLAY

  • Sophomore guard Styles Phipps has filled the stat sheet while starting at point guard this season for the Waves.
  • Phipps is one of 13 players in the country averaging at least nine points per game, five rebounds per game and 6.5 assists per game.
  • Phipps has been consistent with nine points in all three games this season and at least five dimes in every contest.
  • He notched a career-high nine assists against Lincoln while adding two steals and a block.

CLARK ON THE MARK

  • Redshirt sophomore Aaron Clark has paced the Waves in scoring with 15.3 points per game to this point of the season.
  • Clark scored a career-high 18 at UCLA to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
  • He logged 14 points and four steals in his Pepperdine debut against Life Pacific.
  • Clark also has a team-high six steals on the season and joins Phipps as one of two Waves to be averaging four-plus rebounds and three-plus assists per game this season.

DANILO DELIVERS

  • Sophomore Danilo Dozic is coming off a career-night in which he posted 23 points on 11-for-13 from the field against Lincoln.
  • The effort was one of six in the country this season to feature at least 23 points and seven rebounds on over 84-percent from the field.
  • Dozic has totaled six assists through three games as well while knocking down four-of-ten looks from three-point range.

COOLEY, CALM, COLLECTED

  • Graduate student Javon Cooley notched a career-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds at No. 12 UCLA this past Friday.
  • In the season opener, Cooley registered 13 points and five rebounds on 5-for-9 shooting while logging 30 minutes in his first game action since the 2024 MAAC Tournament with Marist.
  • Cooley has posted a team-high 18 rebounds through three games and is third on the team with 12.7 points per game this season.

A MAGER SPARK

  • Redshirt junior guard David Mager is coming off a career-high 13 point effort against Lincoln on five-for-six shooting which included a two-for-three mark from distance.
  • Mager had posted a then career-high 12 points in the season opener off the bench against Life Pacific.
  • Mager has multiple games with two-plus threes made this season, joining Danilo Dozic, Luka Vudragovic and Aaron Clark as Waves to have achieved the feat.

SERBIA TO MALIBU

  • Three of the Waves' native Serbians made an instant impact this season.
  • Freshman Luka Vudragovic had a breakout game against Lincoln, scoring 14 points on six-for-eight from the field.
  • Vudragovic also knocked down a pair of threes in the win and leads the Waves with five triples so far this season.
  • Redshirt sophomore Pavle Stosic posted career-bests of 13 points and seven rebounds on 6-for-10 shooting in the season opener against Life Pacific..
  • Danilo Dozic has averaged 14 points per game to this point while leading the team in field goals made with 17.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Waves have a 1-2 record in the all-time series with the Bears.
  • Pepperdine's lone win in the series came at home in December 1964.
  • The Bears won both matchups in 2017 and 2018, by a combined ten points, as part of a home-and-home across the two seasons.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

  • Northern Colorado began the season with convincing victories over Colorado College (91-57) and Colorado Christian (101-65) at home.
  • The Bears were picked third in the Preseason Big Sky Poll.
  • Northern Colorado fell in the Big Sky Championship Game this past season after a 15-3 mark in Big Sky play.
  • Four players enter the game averaging over 10 points per game, including Zach Bloch, Brock Wisne, Ariik Mawien and Ibu Yamazaki.
  • Bloch has connected on nine of 13 attempts from three-point range to start the season.
The Waves will remain home for its next matchup coming Tuesday against New Orleans with gametime set for 6 p.m. in Malibu.

Pepperdine men's basketball has made 13 NCAA postseason appearances while earning 12 WCC Regular-Season Championships and three WCC Tournament Championships in its history. This success has spanned multiple decades, with the Waves most recently winning the 2021 CBI Tournament. The program has also seen 19 All-Americans along with 19 NBA players, which included a streak of 34 consecutive seasons with at least one alum on an NBA roster from 1976-2011.
