Pepperdine Splits Home and Away This Week

GAME #20: Pepperdine @ Oregon St. | Thursday, Jan. 22 | Corvallis, Ore. | 6:30 PM | ESPN+

GAME #21: Pepperdine vs Pacific | Saturday, Jan. 25 | Malibu, Calif. | 7 PM | ESPN+

FIRE RELIEF: To assist those affected by the LA County fires, please visit this link for a list of ways to donate including the Pepperdine Strong Fund, the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, the Malibu Urgent Care Center and more. Pepperdine is incredibly grateful to the firefighters and first responders who have kept thousands safe during these events.

GAME DONATIONS: Fans are encouraged to bring chapsticks/lip balm, preservative free eye drops, throat lozenges or hard candies and sunscreen to the game for donations to Malibu Urgent Care who supplies these items to those affected by the fires.

LAST TIME OUT: The Waves suffered a 74-50 loss to Saint Mary's last weekend. Todorovic led Pepperdine with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal.

BOARD BUDS: Pepperdine currently ranks fifth in the WCC for rebounds per game (36.3), largely due to the efforts of Butka and Coulibaly who average 6.7 and 7.0 per game. Butka ranks 12th in the WCC for rebounding average and Coulibaly sits at 11th, while the latter also leads the conference in blocks per game (1.7).

CHEF TODOROVIC: Sitting second the WCC in scoring, Stefan Todorovic also ranks T-35th in the nation for his 18.9 points per contest. He has also recorded two of the top 10 scoring outputs in the conference with his 33 and 32 points against UC San Diego and Long Beach State respectively. The Serbian sits ninth in the WCC in field goal percentage (.480), third in free throw percentage (.880) and sixth in threes per game (2.2).

SHARING THE WEALTH: Averaging seven assists per game, junior Moe Odum could pass his way into the Pepperdine top 10 for cumulative assists in a season if he continues on the same pace. Last season, Odum finished third in the WCC for assists per game while playing for Pacific. Currently, he stands sixth in the country for total assists this season (133), sixth for assists per game and second in the WCC in the same category (7.0 apg).

SERIES VS THE BEAVS: 0-5 overall.

SCOUTING OSU: Pepperdine and Oregon State have only met five times prior to 2025 with their last meeting coming in the form of an 82-67 loss for the Waves in Corvallis back during the 2018-19 season. The Beavers' 4-3 WCC record this year is deceiving– though they have losses against LMU, Santa Clara and San Francisco– they recorded a huge win over Gonzaga last week in a 97-89 overtime marathon. Two-time WCC Player of the Week Michael Rataj leads OSU, scoring 17.3 points and 8.3 boards per game while earning shooting clips of .490 (FG) and .367 (3FG).

SERIES VS THE TIGERS: 37-42 overall, 10-15 home, 13-22, away, 4-6 neutral.

SCOUTING UOP: In their last meeting earlier this month, Pepperdine defeated Pacific 87-70 in Stockton as a trio of Waves scored in double-figures to trounce the Tigers. Since that meeting, however, Pacific has earned a huge win over Washington State in Pullman where Lamar Washington dropped 40 points. Washington, who is third on the team in scoring, only averages 12.8 points per contest. The Tigers are led by Elias Ralph with 16.6 points  and 7.2 rebounds per game, followed by Elijah Fisher at 16.3.

SCHILLING & COMPANY: Beginning his first campaign as the Waves' head coach, Ed Schilling has gathered a cabinet of assistant coaches with several decades of coaching experience at all levels of the sport, ranging from Power 5 schools to success at the NAIA, junior college and high school levels.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: The 2024-25 roster features 12 new faces and just two returners in Boubacar Coulibaly and David Mager. Seven of the 12 transferred in to Pepperdine while four are true freshmen. The roster is also significantly older than in years past, seeing three graduate students and five upperclassmen.

PRO WAVES: Revered Wave Doug Christie is currently the interim head coach of the Sacramento Kings. Maxwell Lewis was the 40th pick in the 2023 Draft and earned big minutes in the NBA Summer League. Kessler Edwards began his professional career with the Brooklyn Nets who drafted him at 44th in 2021 but has since been traded to the Sacramento Kings and now resides on the Dallas Mavericks roster. Pepperdine's record-holder for scoring and assists Colbey Ross currently plays for Pallacanestro Trieste– one of the top teams in Italy.
