MALIBU, Calif. — Completing his second fall tournament, Pepperdine men's tennis captain Linus Carlsson Halldin reached the semifinals at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this past weekend.
Playing against competitors from Midwest schools, Carlsson Halldin went 3-1 in the main singles draw. All of his matches were in straight sets and against unranked opponents.
On Friday, the senior from Stockholm, Sweden beat Western Michigan's Oscar Corwin 6-4, 6-1 in the first round before punching his ticket to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Notre Dame senior Jameson Corsillo. Carlsson Halldin opened Saturday's play by beating Nebraska's Lars Johann 6-4, 6-2 before falling to eventual tournament runner-up Chase Thompson of Notre Dame, 6-3, 6-3.
This was Carlsson Halldin's second stint at the MTC, having also competed in the tournament as a freshman in 2021. After this weekend, Carlsson Halldin's five singles wins lead the team in fall play thus far.
Carlsson Halldin and the Waves will have two weeks away from competition before heading to the ITA Southwest Regionals, hosted by Arizona State starting Oct. 17. That tournament will be Pepperdine's penultimate opportunity to earn bids to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which will be held this fall in Waco, Texas.
