PRINCETON, N.J. — No. 27 Pepperdine men's tennis fell to the No. 28-ranked Princeton Tigers on Friday afternoon, 4-1.
Â
"Missed opportunity today," said Director of Tennis
Adam Schaechterle. "We had a great chance to come all the way back after losing doubles. Congrats to Princeton. They took a big punch of momentum, but they gathered and closed it out. We are excited to finish a long road trip at MTSU Sunday."
Â
The Tigers were able to clinch the doubles point thanks to the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the country, featuring Paul Inchauspe and Landon Ardila.
Â
The Waves had a good battle in singles matches, with three of them reaching a third set.
Â
Ardila defeated
Maxi Homberg on flight three to start the singles play (6-2, 6-3), before Inchauspe took down
Edward Winter in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) on court one.
Â
With Pepperdine's back against the wall,
Lasse Poertner, the reigning WCC Singles Player of the Week, was victorious against Top Nindunjianzan in straight sets (6-4, 7-5).
Â
It ultimately wasn't enough as Aleksandar Mitric clinched the fourth point for Princeton with a three-set victory over
David Fix (2-6, 6-2, 6-3).
Â
Gustavo Ribeiro De Almeida dropped the third set of his match and
Aleksa Pisaric was in the midst of a third set when the match concluded.
