Pepperdine Continues Fall Campaign at Golfweek Red Sky Classic

MALIBU, Calif. — After senior Lauren Gomez's individual win at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational earlier this month, the Pepperdine women's golf team is back on the road this week and set for the Golfweek Red Sky Classic - a tournament the Waves have won the last two-consecutive seasons.
EVENT INFO — The tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,305-yard Red Sky Golf Club, located near Vail, Colo. There will be a single round each day between Monday and Wednesday (Sept. 23-25). Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
FIELD — In addition to Pepperdine, the field includes Denver, Mercer, South Dakota State, UNC Asheville, Northern Arizona, Kansas, Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan, Boise State, East Tennessee State, CSU Sacramento, Wichita State and UC Irvine.
PEPPERDINE LINEUP — The Waves' lineup consists of senior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.), juniors Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) and Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) and freshmen Grace Anderson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and Nishna Patel (Mumbai, India).
RANKINGS — Pepperdine is ranked #17 in the Golfweek and #24 in the Mizuno WGCA Coaches national preseason polls. In the WAGR, Jeneath Wong is ranked #90 and has ranked as high as #45, while Eunseo Choi ranks #76. Choi will join the Waves in January.
LAST TIME OUT — Lauren Gomez shot an 11-under 205 (67-71-67) to win the first tournament of her senior campaign earlier this month at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational. She shot 5-under in the first and last rounds to keep a three-stroke margin for her third career victory. The 11-under tied for third in the Pepperdine women's golf record books for lowest 54-hole score.
Pepperdine finished in third-place as a team after amassing as core of 873 (294-291-288) and three Waves finished in the top-20, including Jeneath Wong and Yingzhi Zhu in addition to Gomez.
AWARDS — Jeneath Wong garnered recognition as a Golfweek Preseason All-American third team selection and was also named to the Annika Award watch list.
ROSTER — The Waves return four of seven players, four of which saw action in the NCAA Championships last season. Senior Lauren Gomez returns to the squad after winning her second individual WCC Championship last spring, and so does two-time All-American and 2024 WCC Player of the Year, junior Jeneath Wong. Additionally, senior KaYee Kwok and junior Yingzhi Zhu have returned. Pepperdine adds three freshmen to the ranks, Grace Anderson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada), Eunsio Choi (Auckland, New Zealand) and Nishna Patel (Mumbai, India). This year, Pepperdine has eight players (two seniors, two juniors, and three freshmen).
