VAIL, Colo. – The Pepperdine women's golf team got things underway at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic on Monday, shooting a 290 in the opening round at the par-72, 6,328-yard Red Sky Golf Club to sit tied for sixth.

Jeneath Wong leads the Waves after 18-holes, having shot a 4-under 68 with four birdies on the front nine and another on the back to tie for second heading into the second round tomorrow. She is three-shots behind the lead. Lauren Gomez also had a strong day and is tied for 10^th with a 2-under 70.

Sacramento State has the team lead with a 7-under 281, while Boise State is three-strokes behind in second. Kansas, Little Rock and UC Irvine round out the top five ahead of Pepperdine, one or two strokes ahead respectively.

Pepperdine will continue on with the second round beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m. PT, starting on the first tee. The Waves will be paired with UC Irvine and Northern Arizona.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) started her day with a pair of birdies in her first three holes. She bogeyed hole seven, but rallied with another duo of birdies prior to the turn. She had a flawless back nine and picked up another birdie on 13 to finish tied for second.
Senior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 10^th with a 70. She started with a pair of birdies on holes two and three as well. She posted a bogey on hole nine, but rallied with another birdie on 15 in the second half of the day.
Junior Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 55^th with a score of 76. She started to rally on the back nine with birdies on holes 12 and 13 and finished flawless in her final four holes.
Freshman Grace Anderson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) is also tied for 55^th with a 76 on the day. She had three birdies overall, including one on the front and two in her final four holes of the round.
Freshman Nishna Patel (Mumbai, India) is in 86^th with an 82. She birdied the 10^th hole today.
