MALIBU – Pepperdine men's basketball head coach
Ed Schilling announced the bolstering of the Waves frontcourt with the addition of 6-foot-10 center Alex Leiba for the 2024-25 season on Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm really excited about Alex," Schilling said. "He brings a great motor, size and athleticism to us as well as four years of collegiate playing experience. His cerebral play and shot blocking ability will fit in nicely with our team."
Alex Leiba | 6'10 | GR | C | Old Bridge, N.J. | Penn State Harrisburg
The big man from New Jersey averaged 8.6 points and six rebounds through his senior season at Penn State Harrisburg while shooting 60.7% from the field and gathering 1.5 blocks per contest. Leiba gathered five games with 10-plus rebounds, including back-to-back double-doubles in the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Classic and a career-high 20 points to go with 13 rebounds during a win over Penn State Berks.
"I chose Pepperdine after my conversation with Coach Rigot, where he expressed his belief in my game and ability to develop under him and Coach Schilling," Leiba said. "That, in addition to being able to pursue a master's degree in business from the Graziadio School made it the perfect fit!"
Throughout his four years in Harrisburg, Leiba was awarded academic honors every season including the 2023-24 and 2022-23 NABC Honors Court as well as the 2021-22 United East Scholar-Athlete list and the 2020-21 North Eastern Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete list. He averaged 5.1 total points from 2021-24 while pulling down 4.6 boards during that time.
