CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's golf team is through two rounds of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship and the Waves are three shots behind Sunday's cut line heading into the third round after posting a two-day total of 590 (291-299) at the Omni La Costa North Course.
The Waves are three shots behind Wake Forest and Arizona State who are tied for 14
th and will need to cover ground in the round tomorrow to advance through to Monday's fourth and final round of stroke play as the top-15 teams advance. After stroke play, the top-eight teams will advance through to match play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Yingzhi Zhu is leading the Waves after amassing a two-round score of 145 (72-73) to tie for 38
th. She leads the team with seven birdies thus far, while
Lauren Gomez and
Lion Higo both lead the tournament in par three scoring after posting a 2.75 scoring average on those holes.
Texas A&M has a five-shot lead for first over Stanford after shooting 11-under through 36 holes. Pepperdine will be paired with Florida State and San Jose State, teeing off from hole one beginning at noon. San Jose State is also tied at 17 with the Waves and Florida State is a shot ahead at 13-over.

- Sophomore Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 38th with a two-round score of 145 (72-73). Though she started the day with bogeys on the back nine holes, she rallied on the front in the second half of the day with three birdies and no errors. She has amassed seven birdies so far this weekend.
- Senior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) has posted a 149 (73-76) through two days, which puts her tied for 73rd. She shot for par in her first five holes before bogeying on 15. Though she took the turn with a birdie on 17, she shot 4-over in the second half of the day. Higo has totaled three birdies overall thus far.
- Junior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is also tied for 73rd with a 149 (72-79). She birdied on 17 before the turn, but was unable counter on the front nine. She has produces six birdies in the tournament.
- Sophomore Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) is tied for 92nd with a 151 (78-73). She started the day strong with a birdie on 12 to go 1-under in her first four holes, though a pair of bogeys plagued her prior to the turn. She got back into the swing of things with nine-straight holes for par and a birdie on her second-to-last hole for a strong running, but finished the day with a bogey on nine.
- Senior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) shot a 152 (74-78) through two rounds to tie for 101st. She birdied the 18th hole today and has amassed five overall this tournament.
