Women's Golf in Fourth at Silverado

NAPA, Calif. – The #17 Pepperdine women's golf team closed out the second round of the Chevron Silverado Showdown on Tuesday afternoon, amassing a 585 (287-298) score at the par-72, 6,146-yard Silverado Resort and Spa.
 
Two Waves are in the top-11, led by Kaleiya Romero who is tied for fifth-place and within one stroke of third.  Two players are tied for the individual lead currently – Kajsa Arwefjall (San Jose State) and Catherine Park (USC), who both shot 5-under 139 through two rounds.
 
As a team, the Waves are one shot behind #11 Northwestern in third and two behind #14 Arizona in second.  #9 USC has a nine-stroke lead.  Pepperdine leads #27 San Jose State in fifth by four shots, #8 Texas by five and #4 UCLA by nine.
 
PLAYER SCORES
  • Senior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for fifth with a two-day score of 144 (69-75).  She followed up an impressive first round with the 3-over.  After going 3-over to open things up in the first five holes of the day, she rallied with a 1-under output through the following 12 holes to stay on task.  She has amassed six birdies and an eagle so far in the tournament.
  • Sophomore Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) has posted a 145 (72-73) to sit tied for 11th after two rounds. She opened the day with a birdie, but evened out by hole three.  After doing the same in reverse order on holes six and nine, she made the turn even par.  She went bogeyless through eight holes in the middle of the day, but finished 1-over down the stretch.  Wong has amassed six birdies through 36 holes.
  • Junior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 31st with a score of 148 (74-74).  She picked up a birdie on hole eight and finished out the round bogeyless through the final seven holes.
  • Senior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 43rd with a score of 150 (72-78).  She tabbed two birdies in the round today and has totaled five throughout the week thus far.
  • Sophomore Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) has produced a 150 (74-76) to tie for 43rd as well.  She has tallied four birdies through two rounds, including a pair on the back nine today.
