Pepperdine Extends Lead at WCC Championships

BREMERTON, Wash. – After another dominant round at the par-72, 6,112-yard Gold Mountain-Olympic Course on Saturday, the Pepperdine women's golf team extended an already impressive lead to a 23-stroke advantage at the West Coast Conference Championships.

The Waves are the only team to shoot under par collectively in any round thus far, fueled by three competitors in the top-four after 36-holes.  Pepperdine has amassed a two-round score of 577 (290-287), which leads San Francisco in second-place, as well as Santa Clara by 25-shots and Gonzaga by 26-shots.

Junior Lauren Gomez gave a stellar performance with a 4-under 68 in the round today, marking the best two rounds of the tournament by anyone thus far.  She is 6-under overall and has a four-stroke lead over second-place, which is currently held by fellow Wave, senior Lion Higo.  Higo leads Grace Lee of Gonzaga in third by two strokes.  Gomez and Higo are two of only four competitors that have posted a single round below par – and they have achieved the feat twice.  Sophomore Jeneath Wong rounds out the top-four for Pepperdine.

For the third and final round tomorrow, the Waves will once again be paired with the Dons.  Action will begin at 8:20 a.m. PT for Pepperdine.
