MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team outhit San Diego nine to six, but could not turn those into runs, leaving seven on base throughout the game.
Â
The Waves (12-27, 6-8) stayed toe-to-toe with the Toreros (25-12, 10-4) all game, but a three-run fourth inning would be enough to give San Diego the win as Pepperdine would fall 2-4, looking to avoid the sweep in the third and final game of the series.
Â
BIG WAVES
Senior
Connor Walsh (Niceville, Fla.) went 2-for-4 today, bringing in one of the Waves' two runs on the day.
Â
Junior
Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.) was responsible for the other Pepperdine RBI on the afternoon on a sac fly in the sixth inning.

RECAP
Pepperdine struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter junior designated hitter
Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) dropped a ball into left field, good for a single. After advancing to second, senior outfielder
Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y.) would take first thanks to being hit by a pitch. Advancing to third, Rubin was 90 feet from scoring with two outs. Walsh stepped up to the plate and hit a ball right past the shortstop into left field, scoring Rubin. The Waves led 1-0 by the end of the first inning.
Â
Before Pepperdine could add to the lead, San Diego would respond. Three hits, including a ball threaded down the left field line for a double, scored three for the Toreros and by the end of the third, the Waves trailed 1-3.
Â
San Diego added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning, bringing Jack Gurevitch home after he led the inning off with a double to the left field wall. The Toreros had a 4-2 lead going into the middle of the inning.
Â
Responding immediately, the Waves got one back. A single into right by Walsh would give him his second hit of the day and a leadoff runner on first. Senior infielder
Charles Masino (Newbury Park, Calif.) put runners at the corners with no one out. Looking to lessen the deficit, Nunez sent a ball deep enough into right field to score Walsh from third, recording a sac fly. By the end of the sixth, Pepperdine would be back to only trailing by two.
Â
The Toreros would send the next nine Waves packing and squash all hopes of a rally. Pepperdine loses the second game of the series 2-4, falling to 6-8 in West Coast Conference play.
UP NEXT
The Waves close out the series with the Toreros tomorrow at Eddy D. Field Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
