MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team failed to score a run in Sunday's matinee against San Diego.
Â
The Waves (12-28, 6-9) could not to find a rhythm offensively as the Toreros' (26-12, 11-4) starting pitcher Austin Smith threw for 8.0 innings, recording four strikeouts and 12 fly outs.

BIG WAVES
Â
Senior

Â
Junior
Julian Nunez (Encinitas, Calif.) hit 1-for-3 with a single in the eighth.
Â
RECAP
Â
San Diego got on the scoreboard early with three hits resulting in two runs. Pepperdine trailed 0-2 by the end of the second inning.
Â
Struggling offensively, Pepperdine did not find a hit until the fourth inning. With a single up the middle, Bradshaw attempted to ignite a rally, but was unsuccessful as the inning ended up with no runs scored, still trailing 0-2.
Â
The Toreros added one in the fifth, a result of two singles. Adding two more for insurance, San Diego took advantage of a Pepperdine error in the top of the eighth to take a 6-0 lead.
Â
With one last attempt to get the offense moving, Nunez and junior infielder
Luke Pemberton (Boulder, Colo.) send singles through the left side of the outfield. Unable to build on the momentum, the Waves ended the inning without a run scored.
Â
Adding yet another run in the top of the ninth, San Diego shut Pepperdine out completely, sweeping the series and winning the day 7-0. Â
