Pepperdine to Compete at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Pepperdine track team will travel to the University of California, Riverside to compete in the Chris Rinne Invitational on Saturday, April 20.

Track events began at 2 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay and will conclude at 7:30 p.m. with the 5,000-meter run.

Opening track events at 2 p.m. Pepperdine will have four teams, two on the men's side and two on the women's, compete in the 4x400-meter relay.

Most of the Waves will be participating in the 800-meter run. Of the 14 runners in that event, Avery Smith will look to improve on her time of 2:26.10 on the women's side while Gordon Nilsen and Henry Hicks highlight the men's side, running a 1:57.88 and a 1:58.71, respectively.

Maddy Ortman will be the sole representative for Pepperdine in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles events. She ran both of her personal bests (16.01 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, and 1:07.27 in the 400-meter hurdles) at UCLA on March 23.

For the sprints, Pepperdine will have 13 entries in the 400-meter dash. Isabella Reyes leads the team in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 58.08 seconds, which is less than half a second from a top-three finish in the record books. Over on the men's side, Ryan Hemphill leads the Waves who will be competing this weekend with a time of 50.04 seconds.Â

Seven Waves will run the 100-meter dash. Will Watkins, who currently holds the third-fastest time in school history with a time of 11.17 seconds, will be the only entry for the men. Kaley Peterson and Isabella Reyes lead the squad for the women.

Ending the day, five Waves are slated to run the 5,000-meter run. Among them is Elle Shrader who holds the fourth-fastest time in school history with a time of 17:40.88.
