Men's Golf to Compete at 77th Annual Western Intercollegiate

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine men's golf team will travel to Santa Cruz, Calif. to compete in the 77th Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State University.

EVENT INFO —The Western Intercollegiate will be held at the par-70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. There will be 18 holes of golf each day between Monday and Wednesday (April 15-17).Â

Play will begin at 8:34 a.m. PT each day with tee times off holes one and 10. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat with links found on www.PepperdineWaves.com.

Live coverage on Golf Channel and Peacock will be from 4-7 p.m. PT each day. Replays of all three rounds will be available throughout the week at various times as well.

FIELD — The tournament field includes 14 teams, including five teams ranked among Clipp'd top-25 rankings.

Playing alongside the Waves are #7 Washington, #8 Arizona, #18 Texas, #23 Cal, and #25 Oregon. The full slate includes BYU, Chattanooga, Hawaii, San Diego State, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Irvine, and UNLV.

EVENT HISTORY — 'The Western' began in 1947, making it the longest running college golf tournament. All 92 players will compete for the Western Intercollegiate's Blue Jacket, awarded to the person with the lowest individual score.

The Waves have competed in the Western Intercollegiate 13 times, finishing in the top-five eight times - winning twice and finishing as runner-up on three occasions.

Last season, the Waves and Derek Hitchner took home the hardware, amassing a 1,034 (345-328-361) team score. Hitchner shot a 203 (68-64-71) to win the traditional blue jacket. He became Pepperdine's fourth Western individual champion, and third in the last four years, following his teammates Joe Highsmith and Dylan Menante who won in 2021 and 2023. Alumnus and current Pepperdine assistant coach, Jason Allred, also won in 2000.

PEPPERDINE LINEUP — Pepperdine's lineup consists of sophomore Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton HS/USC), freshmen Kristoffer Kuvaas (Houston, Texas/The Village School) and William Walsh (San Mateo, Calif./Juniper Serra HS), sophomores Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit HS) and Joshua Koo (Cerritos, Calif./Cerritos HS/Washington) and newcomer Takanobu Kanda (Tokyo, Japan/IMG Academy).

LAST TIME OUT — The Waves last competed at the end of March in The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford. Pepperdine finished eighth out of 31 teams with a score of 851 (281-288-282). Kristoffer Kuvaas and William Walsh both led the Waves, tying for sixth as individuals. It was both of their second tournament finishes in the top-10 this year.

SPRING EFFORTS — This Spring, the Waves have finished in the top-10 in three of their five tournaments played thus far.  The squad won the Saticoy Showdown in March, while finishing tied for eighth at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waimea, Hawai'i and eighth outright at The Goodwin in Palo Alto, Calif.
