Jason Allred

Jason Allred, a 2014 Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and the first-ever recipient of the prestigious Byron Nelson Award, was hired as an assistant coach for the Pepperdine mens golf team in January 2024.

Most recently, Allred has enjoyed working with a Christian Ministry called College Golf Fellowship (CGF) and continues to enjoy the opportunity of serving the world of collegiate and professional players through CGF.

“I feel deeply grateful for the unique opportunity to come back to Pepperdine University and dive in with coach Beard and the team,” said Allred at the time of his hiring.  “I cherish the years that I had the privilege of competing as a Wave and there is no way that I could measure the positive impact that my time at Pepperdine had in my life. I have been such a proud fan of what Beard and the Pepperdine players have accomplished throughout the past several seasons. Beard currently has an awesome group of guys on the team. They are young, very talented and highly motivated. I am thrilled to compete alongside them and give my best to invest in their golf and in their lives as a coach.”

Allred competed for the Waves from 1998-2002, helping lead the squad to West Coast Conference titles all four years he was in the lineup.  The team advanced to the NCAA Championships twice, finishing in a tie for 23rd place in 2000 and eighth place in 2002.

He was in the lineup all four seasons, competing in 53 tournaments and playing 156 rounds (a number that ranks sixth in Pepperdine school history). He figures prominently in many more of the schools career records, including 15th in scoring average (73.11). Allred is one of just seven Pepperdine mens golfers to make the All-WCC first team all four years.

Allred was named to the Golf Coaches Association of Americas (GCAA) All-American third team as a 2001-02 senior. His scoring average that season of 72.33 was the second-best in school history at the time. He led the team with nine top-20 finishes that year, including a win at the Club Glove Intercollegiate and a second-place finish at the WCC Championships. He ended up 45th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

He also earned a major prize given for the first time in 2002: the Byron Nelson Award. Presented to a graduating senior by the GCAA, the honor takes into account a nominees entire academic career, college golf career and his character and integrity while in college.

Allred, who graduated in 2002 with a degree in speech communications, was a GCAA All-American Scholar in both 2001 and 2002, and collected WCC All-Academic honors all four seasons. He was named Pepperdine AthleticsScholar-Athlete of the Year in 2002 and was a leader in the Pepperdine Christian student-athlete group, The Goal.”

A top recruit from Ashland (Oregon) High School, Allred arrived at Pepperdine with such accolades as a victory at the 1997 U.S. Junior Championships and a third-place result at the 1997 Junior World Championships.

After graduating from Pepperdine, Allred reached golfs highest level when he earned PGA Tour cards in 2005, 2008 and 2014. Other years, he competed on the Korn Ferry Tour.

In 2014, despite not beginning the season with the benefit of a PGA Tour card, Allred recorded his most successful year as a professional. It began in February, when he earned a spot in the Genesis Open at nearby Riviera Country Club through qualifying. He then played his way to a third-place finish.

Throughout his career Allred competed in five major championships, 70 PGA Tour events, and 152 tournaments on the Korn Ferry Tour.

He and his wife Kimberly (a fellow Pepperdine graduate who played one season of basketball), have four children: Annie, Zane, Lucy and Boden.
