FRESNO, Calif. – The #12 Pepperdine women's golf team closed out the Fresno State Classic in third-place at the par-72, 6,276-yard Copper River Country Club on Tuesday afternoon. The Waves moved up three spots to finish strong after tying for the best third-round of the day and finishing with a three-round score of 878 (294-297-287).
Pepperdine shot the 1-under in the final round, along with champion Colorado State, Cal Poly and UC Riverside. Attributing to the solid performance today were top-15 finishers for the Waves –
Kaleiya Romero,
Jeneath Wong and
Lauren Gomez.
Romero led the squad after shooting even through three rounds, finishing tied for fourth-place. Wong and Gomez each finished tied for 11
th as well.
PLAYER SCORES
- Senior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) finished tied for fourth with a three-round total of 216 (73-72-71). She had four birdies in the round today, including a 3-under push from holes 11-16. She led the Waves and tied the field-high with 11 birdies in total and was only four shots out of the lead after play finished.
- Junior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) tied for 11th with a score of 219 (71-74-74). She had four birdies throughout the tournament and led the tournament in par scoring, having shot for par on 44 of her 54 holes.
- Sophomore Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) moved up 14 spots in the final round to finish with a 219 (74-74-71). She opened the day 4-under through six holes, but ended with the 1-under after 18. She totaled eight birdies throughout the tournament.
- Senior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) shot a 224 (76-77-71) through three rounds to finish tied for 37th. She posted a 1-under in the first seven holes of her round today and ended 1-under after some back-and-forth on the back nine. She posted seven birdies overall.
- Sophomore Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) finished tied for 68th with a 229 (77-77-75). She had three birdies in the final round and four all together.
