Waves Head to UCLA For Two Meets This Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — After taking a week off since its last meet, the Pepperdine track team will compete in two meets at UCLA, starting with the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday and wrapping up with the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on Saturday.

Both meets will be hosted by UCLA and will take place at Drake Stadium in Los, Angeles Calif. The Bob Larsen Distance Carnival is set to begin the first track event at 6 p.m. on Friday, while the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational's first track event will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both meets will not be live streamed; live result links can be found on the track team's schedule page at pepperdinewaves.com.

At the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday, 12 Waves will kick off the action in the women's 1,500-meter run, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Hannah Bruner has run the fastest 1,500-meter time of the season so far with a 4:47.28 — good for ninth all-time in program history. Several other runners are expected to make their season premiere in the events, including Elle Shrader and Megan La Camera. For the men, five Waves including Ryan Fabian and Gordon Nilsen will compete in the men's 1,500 meter run at 6:20 p.m.

Patrick Thomas will make his debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 7:10 p.m., looking to be the first Wave to run the event in six years. Thomas and Dominic Silhol will run the 5,000-meter run — an event Thomas owns the sixth-fastest time at Pepperdine with a 14:41.19 — at 7:55 p.m. Rounding out the distance races, Johnathan Flint will take part in the 10,000-meter run, attempting to beat his personal best of 30:19.50, which is the second-fastest time in school history.

Although heat sheets have not been released as of press time for the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, Pepperdine's sprint squad is expected to compete on Saturday. Pepperdine's first event will be the women's 4x100 meter relay at 1:05 p.m., then the track events will conclude at 4:15 p.m. for the women's 4x400 meter relay.
