Pepperdine to Recognize First Responders at Saturday's Game
12/13/2024 12:33:00 PM | Men's Basketball
TRAVEL & FIRE UPDATE: Pepperdine is incredibly grateful to the first responders who kept campus and the community safe during the fire and as such, will be honoring them at the game Saturday. Please note that as of Friday afternoon, Pacific Coast Highway is open in both directions, but those attending the game are encouraged to check road conditions and give themselves extra time traveling to campus. With Malibu Canyon Road still closed as of Friday afternoon, if coming through the canyon, we recommend you use Kanan Road or Topanga Canyon Boulevard to get to Pepperdine. You can access the current status of roads here: https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.
FIRST RESPONDER RECOGNITION: Pepperdine invites any first responders who were on the frontlines of the Franklin Fire and involved in keeping our community safe to join us at the game to be honored. Entry is free for any first responders and their families attending the game by either filling out the form linked here or showing relevant identification at entry to the game.
GAME #11: Pepperdine (4-6) vs. NAU (7-3) | Saturday, Dec. 14 | Malibu, Calif. | 1 PM
COVERAGE: Saturday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Hall of Famer Al Epstein continues his streak of 1,203-straight men's basketball broadcasts in his 40th season on the call. Joining him is Kevin Brown in the color commentary seat.
SCHILLING & COMPANY: Beginning his first campaign as the Waves' head coach, Ed Schilling has gathered a cabinet of assistant coaches with several decades of coaching experience at all levels of the sport, ranging from Power 5 schools to success at the NAIA, junior college and high school levels.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: The 2024-25 roster features 12 new faces and just two returners in Boubacar Coulibaly and David Mager. Seven of the 12 transferred in to Pepperdine while four are true freshmen. The roster is also significantly older than in years past, seeing three graduate students and five upperclassmen.
LAST TIME OUT: The Waves went 2-0 last week with huge wins over Life Pacific (119-57) and Grambling State (85-57), seeing Stefan Todorovic lead in both games with 16 and 22 points in each. Big men Alonso Faure and Dovydas Butka each earned double-doubles as Faure went for 12 points and 10 rebounds against LPU while Butka put together a 14-point, 13-board game against Grambling.
TODOROVIC TOTALITY: Through the first five games of the season, the Serbian native has led Pepperdine in scoring while averaging almost 20 going into this week. Todorovic dropped a career-high 33 points at UCSD earlier in November. The senior currently leads the West Coast Conference in scoring (18.9 ppg) and led the league in that category for the whole month of November.
SHARING THE WEALTH: Averaging over seven assists per game, junior Moe Odum could pass his way into the Pepperdine top 10 for cumulative assists in a season if he continues on the same pace. Last season, Odum finished third in the WCC for assists per game (4.6) while playing for Pacific. Currently, he stands eighth in the country for assists per game and second in the WCC in the same category (7.2 apg).
PRO WAVES: Maxwell Lewis was the 40th pick in the 2023 Draft and earned big minutes in the NBA Summer League. Kessler Edwards began his professional career with the Brooklyn Nets who drafted him at 44th in 2021 but has since been traded to the Sacramento Kings and now resides on the Dallas Mavericks roster. Pepperdine's record-holder for scoring and assists Colbey Ross currently plays for Pallacanestro Trieste– one of the top teams in Italy.
