Pepperdine Completes Day Two at the Trailblazer Invite

MALIBU, Calif. – Highlighted by multiple season-best times and three different Waves either entering or improving their spots on the Pepperdine all-time top-10 list, the Pepperdine Swim program is through the second day of competition at the Trailblazer Invite.
 
Four Pepperdine divers also competed at the Trojan Diving Invitational in the 1-meter competition in Los Angeles, Calif. today.
 
SWIM RECAP
 
PRELIMS
In the 100 fly, Sophia Ware (Allen, Texas) clocked a 56.99, good for the sixth fastest time ever by a Wave and a spot in the finals. In a time trial swim, Emme Spevak (Austin, Texas) notched a 56.98 in the event to claim the best time so far for Pepperdine this season. Spevak also earned the fifth spot on the Waves all-time top-10 list in the 100 fly with her performance today.
 
Ansley Halbach (Watkinsville, Ga. and AJ Adams (Castle Rock, Colo.) finished 26th and 29th respectively in the 400 IM to earn spots in the finals. Halbach completed her swim in 4:35.18, while Adams notched a 4:36.50 in the event.
 
In the 100 breast, Charli Sunahara (Chino, Calif.), Chloe Inouye (Kaua'i, Hawai'i) and Anna Ryan (Alamo, Calif.) finished in 20th, 29th and 32nd respectively to all qualify for the finals. Sunahara notched a season-best time after finishing the swim in 1:04.86, and Inouye and Ryan finished with respective times of 1:06.16 and 1:06.52. Mollie Cho (Frisco, Texas) also qualified for the finals in the event after earning a time of 1:06.60 and receiving a nod after the scratches came in.
 
Elliot Easton (Tampa, Fla.) earned a time of 1:55.46 in the 200 free, which was good for a spot in the finals after the scratches came in.
 
Although she didn't qualify for the finals, Layla Busquets (Diablo, Calif.) recorded a 58.01 in the 100 back - a season-best time for the Waves.
 
FINALS
RELAYS
The team of Busquets, Sunahara, Alexandra Browne (Arlington, Va.) and Ryan earned points for Pepperdine as they finished in eighth and exactly one second off the school record, 1:43.52.
 
In the 800 free relay, the squad of Browne, Ware, Jordyn Larson (Sacramento, Calif.) and Halbach took 13th after recording a time of 7:42.07. The foursome of Lindsay Hemming (Orinda, Calif.), Easton, Adams and Ryan earned a 16th-place finish in the same event with a time of 7:47.28 - both squads earned points for the Waves.
 
INDIVIDUALS
In the 400 IM, Halbach moved up to fifth on the Waves all-time top-10 list with a 21st-place finish and a time of 4:31.00, which was also a season-best time for Pepperdine. Adams completed her finals swim in 4:37.24, good for 29th place.
 
Sunahara took 20th in the 100 breast after posting a time of 1:05.01 in the final. Cho, Ryan and Inouye took 29th, 30th and 32nd as they all posted respective times of 1:06.19, 1:06.46, 1:06.76.
 
Easton finished the 200 free in 31st after finishing her swim in 1:55.47.
 
Ware completed the 100 fly final in 57.67, good for 32nd.

DIVING RECAP
 
PRELIMS
After earning respective scores of 186.90, 196.60 and 217.05 in the 1-meter prelims, Amanda Wong (Santa Ana, Calif.), Delainey Pisaruk (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Vivian Vallely (Newport Beach, Calif.) all qualified for the finals.
 
Lexie Martin (Keller, Texas) tallied 179.25 points in the prelims.

FINALS
Vallely totaled 432.10 points after accumulating 215.05 points in the finals, good for a top-10 finish. Wong notched 197.15 points in the finals to give her 384.05 points and earn a 16th-place finish. Pisaruk finished just behind Wong as she tallied 184.90 points in her finals round to end with a total of 381.50 points.
 
NEXT UP
The Waves swimmers continue with the final day of the Trailblazer Invite tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. PT. Pepperdine's divers will compete in the 3-meter competition at the Trojan Diving Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. starting at 11 a.m. PT tomorrow.
