MEDINAH, Ill. – The #23 Pepperdine women's golf team finished the opening two rounds of the Illini Women's Invitational this afternoon. After posting a 584 (292-292), the team will head into the third and final round tomorrow in thirteenth-place.
The highlight of the day was
Lauren Gomez, who after a 2-over first round, bounced back and posted a 3-under second round. She currently sits tied for 28th (-1). Including Gomez, the Waves had three golfers shoot under par in a round today.
Jeneath Wong shot a 2-under 70 in the first round, while
Nishna Patel notched a 1-under 71 in her second round. In total, Pepperdine racked up 25 birdies and two eagles on the day.
Houston holds a one-stroke lead for first place after tabbing a 556 (281-275), while Ole Miss sits in second and UCF, UCLA, Indiana and Auburn round out the top five - Indiana and Auburn are tied for fifth and are both 7-under.
Pepperdine will be paired with North Texas and Northern Illinois tomorrow for the final round, teeing off at 7 a.m. on holes thirteen through sixteen.

- Senior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 28th with a two-round score of 143 (74-69). She sits at 1-under heading into the final day. She also eagled the 519-yard par-5 16th hole in her second round.
- Freshman Nishna Patel (Mumbai, India) is tied for 39th after she posted a 145 (74-71). She tallied eight birdies today.
- Junior Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) posted a 148 (70-78) to sit tied for 57th after day one. She eagled the 493-yard par-5 seventh hole during her first round today.
- Junior Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 73rd with a two-round score of 151 (74-77). She amassed four birdies in total, including three in the first round.
- Freshman Grace Anderson (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) is tied for 76th with a score of 153 (78-75). She had two birdies in each round today.
