WOLCOTT, Colo. – The #9 Pepperdine women's golf team stayed ahead through the second round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic after shooting an even 288 today at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club Fazio Course.
The Waves have a two-day score of 573 (285-288) and hold first place by 17-strokes heading into the third and final round tomorrow. The squad held a sizable lead throughout the day and was the only team that did not shoot over par in the second round. Pepperdine is also only the team still shooting under par in the tournament overall.
Four Waves are in the top-10, led by
Lion Higo and
Kaleiya Romero who are both tied for fifth place.
Jeneath Wong and
Lauren Gomez are both one stroke behind their teammates and tied for eighth. After Higo and
KaYee Kwok each tabbed an eagle in the first round yesterday, Romero followed suit with an eagle on the par-five 15-hole today.
PLAYER SCORE
- Senior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for fifth with a score of 143 (69-74). She marked a pair of birdies in the round today and has posted seven birdies and an eagle overall.
- Senior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is also tied for fifth with a 143 (73-70). She birdied her second hole of the day to open the round, but bogeyed four and six to go one-over on the front. After the sixth, however, she remained bogeyless throughout the rest of the day, amassing another birdie on hole 11 and the eagle on the 15th to end the day 2-under.
- Junior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for eighth with a score of 144 (73-71). She posted five birdies in the round today and leads the Waves with nine birdies in the tournament overall.
- Sophomore Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) is tied for eighth with a two-day total of 144 (70-74). She marked one birdie in the round today on the 16th hole and has collected four throughout the tournament so far.
- Junior KaYee Kwok (Tianjin, China) is tied for 24th with a score of 150 (77-73). She put in three birdies in the second round today, including one on the final 18th hole, and has tallied five birdies and an eagle overall.
- Competing as an individual, freshman Helen Chu (Guangzhou, China) is tied for 40th with a two-day total of 153 (74-79).
UP NEXT
For the third and final round tomorrow, Pepperdine will be paired with High Point, New Mexico State and Boise State. The Waves will tee off on holes one through four at 8:15 a.m. PT.
