WOLCOTT, Colo. – The #9 Pepperdine women's golf team is in first after the opening round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, having shot a 3-under 285 at the par-72 Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club. 
 
Four Waves are in the top-20 as well, led by All-Americans Lion Higo and Jeneath Wong who are tied for second and fifth respectively.  Higo and KaYee Kwok each impressed with eagles on the front nine and Higo was able to use that momentum to finish 3-under, one shot shy of first place.
 
Pepperdine leads teams currently in second and third, Arkansas State and High Point, by six and nine strokes respectively. 
 
PLAYER SCORE

• Senior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for second after shooting 3-under 69.  She picked up an eagle on the fifth hole before birdying holes six through eight on the front and though she had a few bogeys throughout, another pair of birdies on the final two holes kept her 3-under.
• Sophomore Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) is tied for fifth with a first-round score of 70.  She started off strong with two birdies on 10 bogeyless holes, and though she bogeyed the 11^th, she countered with another birdie on the 14^th to keep under par.
• Junior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) and senior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) are both tied for 19^th after tabbing a score of 73.  Gomez had four birdies throughout the day, while Romero had three.
• Junior KaYee Kwok (Tianjin, China) is tied for 51^st with a score of 77.  She eagled her third hole of the day and had two birdies on the back nine.
• Playing as an individual, freshman Helen Chu (Guangzhou, China) is tied for 25^th with a score of 74.  She posted three birdies on the back, including the final 18^th.

Pepperdine will tee off on the first hole, beginning at 9:50 a.m. PT tomorrow, paired with Arkansas State and High Point.
