RIVERSIDE, Calif. – There was a morning full of personal records and a strong performance for the Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams as freshman

Caroline Fleenor and sophomore
Kai Newman led the men and women in the four races at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning held at UCR Agricultural Operations Course.
Additionally, Crawford,
Elle Shrader and
Hannah Bruner each marked their name on the Pepperdine women's 6K all-time list, while
Johnathan Flint moved up one spot on the men's 8K all-time list.
Crawford earned a 25th-place overall finish out of 172 runners in the women's 6K invitational in a time of 21:07.2, which puts her third on the all-time list. Crawford's time was just 28.15 seconds away from the school record, which is 20:39.05 held by
Chelsea Wishard and was 9.92 seconds away from passing head coach
Lauren Floris (nee Lodge) 6K time which sits second all-time at 20:57.28. This was Crawford's collegiate 6K debut and the first time since 2018 a women's runner has put her name in the top-5 on the all-time 6K list.
Shrader collected a time of 22:07.7, which was 48.8 seconds faster than her personal best and notches her 13th on the all-time list. Also, in her collegiate 6K debut, Bruner earned a 97th overall finish in a time of 22:20.4, which puts her 19th on the Pepperdine all-time list. Fleenor led Pepperdine in the women's open 5K with a 79th overall finish in a time of 19:32.0, which is a new personal record by one minute and 25.2 seconds. The women's team placed 14th out of 18 teams (eighth among Division I teams).
On the men's side,
Johnathan Flint led Pepperdine in the men's 8K invitational placing 28th overall out of 214 runners. His time of 24:19.7 is a personal record by 14.4 seconds and moved him up one notch from ninth to eighth on the Pepperdine all-time list. Newman led the Waves in the men's open 8K with a 46th-place finish in a time of 26:04.0, which is a new personal record by 55.5 seconds. The men's squad placed 12th out of 21 teams (sixth among Division I teams).
Both the men's and women's team had a combined 13 runners set new personal records for themselves.
WOMEN'S 6K INVITATIONAL LEADERS
- Freshman Lizzy Crawford (Thornton, Colo./Horizon HS) 21:07.2, 25th overall, and marked her name third on the all-time list.
- Senior Elle Shrader (Boerne, Texas/Boerne-Samuel V. Champion) 22:07.7, 78th overall, beat her personal record by 48,8 seconds and etched her name 13th on the all-time list.
- Freshman Hannah Bruner (Redmond, Wash./Lake Washington HS) 22:20.4, 97th overall, and notched her name 19th on the all-time list. This was Bruner's first collegiate 6K.
- Sophomore Abby Winter (Edina, Minn./Southwest Christian HS) 22:45.2, 119th overall, beat her personal record by 42.8 seconds.
- Freshman Hannah Miller (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS) 23:05.6, 133rd overall.
MEN'S 8K INVITATIONAL LEADERS
- Senior Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) 24:19.7, 28th overall, beat his personal record by 14.4 seconds and moved from ninth to eighth on the Pepperdine all-time list.
- Sophomore Joshua Bergers (Cohasset, Mass./IMG Academy) 24:50.4, 75th overall.
- Graduate student Will Bullock (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS/Eastern Illinois) 25:01.2, 89th overall.
- Sophomore Patrick Thomas (Paso Robles, Calif./Mission College Prep) 25:06.3, 95th overall.
- Junior Elias Spence (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area HS) 25:36.9, 140th overall.
WOMEN'S NOTABLE
- Freshman Emma Martinez (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton HS) ran a personal record 6K time of 23:43.9, which was 10 seconds faster than her previous time.
- Freshman Kayla Renner (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe HS) made her 6K debut in a time of 23:47.8.
- Freshmen Lacey Reedy (Saint Simons Island, Ga./Glynn Academy) and Renee Skiera (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey HS) competed in their first collegiate 5K.
- Freshman Emerson Beard (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) made her Pepperdine debut in the women's 5K in a time of 20:12.5
- Junior Brooke Bakken (Norwalk, Wis./Tomah HS) and sophomore Hannah Renager (Clifton, Va./James W. Robinson Secondary School) each set new personal records in the women's 5K.
MEN'S NOTABLE
- Senior Nathaniel Lerch (Clarion, Pa./Clarion Area HS), freshman Gordy Nilsen (Boulder, Colo./Fairview HS) and sophomore Daniel Whitaker (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette HS) each set a new personal record in the men's 8K.
- Freshman Kaleb McElfish (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Tesoro HS) competed in his first collegiate 8K.
