SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Pepperdine women's golf team has begun the NCAA San Antonio Regional in sixth place after Monday's first round of competition.
 
The Waves need to finish in the top five to advance to the NCAA Championships and they will start tomorrow's round only one shot behind the cutline.  They opened with an 11-over 299 at the par-72 TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.  UCLA and New Mexico both shot a 10-over 298 to tie for fourth, while Oklahoma and Texas A&M shot a 7-over 295 to tie for first.  
 
Pepperdine is competing in NCAA Regional play for the 24^th-consecutive time and is looking to advance to the finals for the 13^th occasion.
 
PLAYER SCORES

• Senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for 11^th after shooting 1-over 73 to lead the Waves.  She had one birdie.
• Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for 16^th with a 74.  She had two birdies.
• Junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) shot a 3-over 74 to tie for 23^rd.  She had one birdie and was flawless in her final eight holes.
• Sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) and freshman Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) both finished with a 5-over 77 to tie for 33^rd.  Gomez had two birdies, while Wong posted one.

 
UP NEXT
Pepperdine will be paired with UCLA and New Mexico for the second-round tomorrow.  The Wavs will tee off on the first hole beginning at 6 a.m. PT.
