Pepperdine to Compete at Oxy Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's and women's track teams will travel to Los Angeles to compete in the OXY Invitational.

The meet is hosted by Occidental College at the Bill Henry Track on Saturday, May 6. Running events will begin at 2 p.m. and the first race for the Waves will be the women's 100 meters starting at 2:55 p.m.Â

Pepperdine last competed at the Battle in the OC on April 20 hosted by Cal State Fullerton and had another strong performance, including William Watkins breaking his own school record in the men's 200 meters.

Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS), a junior, beat his own school record in the men's 200 meters in a time of 22.13, which was 0.01 seconds faster than his previous school record he held. Watkins set the 200M school record last season at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Watkins also competed in the men's 400 meters, collecting a time of 50.13.

Freshman Kai Newman (Temecula, Calif./Linfield Christian HS) ran a personal record time of 4:01.86, which was 2.19 seconds faster than his previous time. In the women's 800m, three different women race personal or season best times. Freshman Caroline Graham (Hockessin, Del./Delaware Military Academy) ran a personal and season-best time of 2:21.76, which was faster by 3.01 seconds. Junior Kira Graves (Duarte, Calif./Arcadia HS) also ran a season-best time of 2:23.46 in the 800m, which is 2.71 faster than her previous time. Sophomore CeCe Fleenor (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O'Connell HS) ran a personal best as well in the women's 800 meters crossing the line at 2:31.05. In the women's 200 meters freshman Kelly Prunzik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic HS) ran a personal and season-best time of 27.83.
