SCOUTING THE WAVES
Nearly one month removed from winning its first West Coast Conference tournament title since 2013, Pepperdine is the only WCC school with players in Orlando this week. Both De Jonge and Zeitvogel have been instrumental in the Waves' resurgence to the top of the conference under fifth-year head coach Adam Schaechterle; fittingly, the pair of super-seniors give Pepperdine its first appearances in both the singles and doubles tournament in the same season since 2014.
De Jonge is the WCC Player of the Year after going 17-12 overall and 13-7 in dual singles play on court one and two. He has won nine-straight dual singles matches going into the tournament and will be making his second-straight appearance in the NCAA Singles Tournament. Last season, De Jonge fell in the first round to Georgia Tech's Andres Martin, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
His doubles partner, Zeitvogel, will be making the first NCAA Tournament appearance of his career. Splitting time on courts one and two, Zeitvogel also has a 17-12 overall record this season, yet has gone 10-6 in dual singles play this year. In doubles play with De Jonge, the duo has gone 22-14 on the first line this season — including four wins over ranked opponents. They were ranked #64 in the latest iteration of the ITA rankings.
