AZUSA, Calif. – The Pepperdine track teams finished the outdoor season with another solid performance, including two new school records set by
Olivia Miller and
Ryan Hemphill at the APU Last Chance Meet hosted by Azusa Pacific this weekend.
Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS), a senior, notched a new school record in the women's 800 meters on Friday night, collecting a time of 2:12.11, which was 1.68 seconds faster than the previous record set by Talya Holenstein (2017 at Pomona-Pitzer). Miller is coming off another school record weekend as she earned the women's 1,500 meters record last week at the Oxy Invitational.
Additionally on Friday night, Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS), a junior, broke his own school record in the men's 800 meters by 0.36 seconds with a new time of 1:49.45. Hemphill's previous time was 1:49.81, which he set last season at Oxy Invitational.
Freshmen
Spencer Mueller (Fresno, Calif./Clovis North HS) and
Kai Newman (Temecula, Calif./Linfield Christian HS) also competed in the men's 800 meters, each earning new personal records. Mueller clocked in at 1:54.31 which was 0.24 seconds faster than his previous time and moved him from sixth to fifth on the Pepperdine all-time list. Newman crossed the line at 1:59.26, which was 0.54 seconds faster than his previous record.
The women's 5,000 meters followed the 800, which junior
Elle Shrader (Boerne, Texas/Boerne-Samuel V. Champion HS) represented the Waves with a time of 19:08.33. The next race of the night was the men's 5,000 meters as freshman
Joshua Bergers (Cohasset, Mass./IMG Academy) ran a personal record time of 14:38.70.
On Saturday, the first race of the day for Pepperdine was the men's 400 meters. Junior
William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) represented the team clocking in with a time of 52.40. After a break in the day, the women's 1,500 meters was next as sophomore
Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) ran a time of 4:59.23.
Pepperdine rounded out the night with the men's 1,500 meters as freshman
Patrick Thomas (Paso Robles, Calif./Mission College Prep) notched the team's fastest time coming in at 3:57.31. Thomas' time is also a new personal record by 0.34 seconds and keeps his name sixth on the Pepperdine all-time list.
