PORTLAND, Oregon – The Pepperdine men's tennis program won its seventh consecutive match and wrapped up its road trip on a high note with a 5-1 win over Portland on Saturday afternoon at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.
Doubles was even throughout, but it was Portland (9-8, 3-3 WCC) who struck first with an upset win on court one. Pepperdine (13-7, 5-0 WCC) responded, however, as Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) won their third doubles match of the week, taking court three 6-4. The doubles point came down to court two, where
Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) and
Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) won 7-6 (1) to give the Waves an early lead heading into singles.
Singles were played in two flights since the Pilots only have three indoor courts. In the first flight, Vasa wasted no time in doubling the Pepperdine lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Nicolas Ocana on court three. Portland then earned its first point of the day by taking the ranked matchup on the top court. After being pushed to a third set, #69 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) took care of business on court two, defeating Eleftherios Neos 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 to increase Pepperdine's lead to 3-1.
To finish off the win, Homberg was victorious over Maxim Groysman 6-2, 6-3 on court five.
Court four was played out to completion, where Fellin was a straight-set winner over Nikolas Tvedt 6-2, 6-4.
