No. 29 Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten in WCC Play, Defeats No. 40 Santa Clara 4-1

MALIBU, Calif. — No. 29-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis (14-7, 5-0 WCC) continued its dominance on Senior Day in a 4-1 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos (17-3, 4-1 WCC).

"First, I want to congratulate Santa Clara and their coaching staff for an excellent spring," said Director of Tennis/Head Coach Adam Schaechterle. They came in 17-2 with wins over Alabama, Oregon, and Washington. They deserve an at-large NCAA bid."

"We played an excellent match and today was a strong step toward us clicking at all 9 spots in the lineup," continued Schaechterle. "I'm happy for Maxi that he was able to clinch the doubles and then produce a strong singles performance on his senior day. He has been a four-year starter in singles and doubles and a part of several excellent squads. We are grateful for all he's given to the program."

The Waves took a 1-0 advantage after winning the doubles point. Lasse Poertner and Aleksa Pisaric made it look easy at the No. 2 position, reigning victorious 6-0. Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida and senior Maxi Homberg put the finishing touches on the point with a 6-3 win over Valentin Faure and Ferran Redza.

David Fix came out red-hot to extend Pepperdine's lead to 2-0 with an emphatic straight-sets victory at the No. 6 position over Bluett (6-1, 6-0).

Santa Clara was able to get on the board, however, thanks to Lukas Maskow defeating Pepperdine's freshman, Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida (4-6, 3-6).

It was Pisaric who was able to put away SCU with a victory over John Kim (6-4, 6-4) to keep Pepperdine unbeaten in conference play as the team streamrolls down the stretch.

Lasse Poertner's match against Luca Lematire was abandoned with Poertner leading 4-2 in the second set after winning 7-5 in the first.

Edward Winter's match against Alexander Eriksson was also abandoned, with Winter leading 5-2 in set two after winning the first 6-4.
