Waves Set for Silicon Valley Showcase

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine women's golf team is back at it, set for the two-day Silicon Valley Showcase on Monday and Tuesday.
EVENT INFO — The tournament will be held at the par-71, 6,061-yard Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, Calif. It's a two-day event (April 10-11) with 36 holes of golf on Monday and the final round of 18 on Tuesday. Fellow West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara is the tournament host.
Located in Millbrae, Green Hills was designed and build by world-famous golf course architect, Dr. Alister MacKenzie, and features breathtaking views of the sun-warmed hills between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. Green Hills has served as a U.S. Open Qualifying site, has hosted the MacKenzie Cup as well as a number of other USGA and NCGA events. The Silicon Valley Showcase will be set up for a par-71, 6,091 course.
SCORING & TEE TIMES — Live scoring will be available on Golfstat with links found on www.PepperdineWaves.com. Tee times are set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start each day.
FIELD — In addition to #25 Pepperdine, the 9-team field includes tournament-host Santa Clara, #1 Stanford, Gonzaga, Nevada, Long Beach State, Seattle, UC Irvine and Wyoming.
PEPPERDINE LINEUP — Pepperdine will be paired with Santa Clara and Stanford for rounds one and two. The Waves' lineup consists of freshman Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia), juniors Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) and Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia), sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) and freshman Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China).
EVENT HISTORY — This is the inaugural Silicon Valley Showcase.
TICKET INFORMATION — Admission to the Silicon Valley Showcase is free, however ticket reservations are required as spots are limited. Please bring adequate water along with you. PARKING— Parking will be limited and located off-site with a shuttle service provided beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. The parking lot is located at the northwest corner of Richmond Ave. and Magnolia Dr. (west of the Living Spaces store). Look for signs for "Shuttle Pick Up". Shuttles will run every 15-20 minutes.
RANKINGS — Golfstat and Golfweek have the Waves ranked #25 this week.
Jeneath Wong ranks #48 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Lion Higo, Kaleiya Romero and Lauren Gomez currently rank #33, #200 and #201 respectively on the individual Golfstat rankings. In the Golfweek individual rankings, Wong ranks #39 and Higo ranks #47.
SPRING HIGHLIGHTS — Pepperdine won the first tournament of the Spring on March 27-29, dominating the Anuenue Spring Break Classic with an 18-under 846. Lion Higo and Reese Guzman both highlighted for the Waves as they each tied for 5th with a 7-under 209. The Waves put in an impressive performance at The Show at Spanish Trail, finishing second after posting better second and third rounds than any other teams. Jeneath Wong placed fourth with two rounds of 68 for a 5-under. Lion Higo also had a stellar performance, tying for fifth after shooting a 3-under and posting her second top-20 finish in as many tournaments. Yingzhi Zhu finished tied for 10th as well - her second time in the top-20 this season.Â
In early March, Pepperdine finished fourth at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate Invitational. Three Waves finished in the top-20, led by Wong who posted her best finish in the blue and orange, tying for third. To begin the season, the Waves golfed at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, finishing 9th among 16 teams, and besting #12 UCLA by four strokes. The Waves also finished 5th at the Silverado Showdown in the beginning of April, with three golfers finishing in the top-15. Wong and Kaleiya Romero finished tied for 8th, while Higo finished tied for 15th.
RECORD BOOK WATCH — The Waves have been putting a dent on the record book this season. At the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, Pepperdine had the second-best 36-hole score in Pepperdine women's golf history with a 15-under, tied the third-best 54-hole score for the second time this season with an 18-under, and posted the fourth-best single round with an 11-under in the second round. In the Fall, the Waves had also tied for third for the 54-hole score, tied for 6th with a 9-under second round and put in the third-best 36-hole score with 12-under - all at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
Individually, Lion Higo tied for fourth with a 10-under 54-hole score at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, while Reese Guzman tied for fifth with a 7-under 18-hole score in the second round at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic.Â
Higo also currently ranks 8th in the program's career scoring average lists with a 74.01 and is tied for fourth with 13 below-par rounds in a single season. Lauren Gomez ranks 6th in the record books for her 73.72 scoring average as well.
