SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The #37 Pepperdine men's tennis team made quick work of the hosting San Francisco Dons in a 4-0 sweep on Friday afternoon.
The Waves (15-8, 7-1 West Coast Conference) mixed up its doubles lineups but still won the doubles point over the Dons (1-16, 0-8 WCC). Over in singles, the story was more of the same, as only one of the singles matches made it to the third set before Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands), Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany), and Robert Shelton (Lancaster, Pa.) cruised to straight-set singles wins. Friday's win marked Pepperdine's fourth straight victory over USF.
In doubles, Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) and Homberg gave Pepperdine an early advantage with a 6-3 win on court one before De Jonge and freshman Max Wuelfing (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) clinched the doubles point on court three with a 6-3 win of their own.
Over in singles play, Homberg kept the momentum going with a 6-0, 6-1 win on the fourth line for his fourth-straight singles win of the season. Shelton's 6-1, 6-2 win on court five, then #66 De Jonge's 6-3, 6-4 win on court one completed the sweep for the Waves. The remaining matches were not played out.
