BREMERTON, Wash. – The #17 Pepperdine women's golf team ended the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships in second-place on Thursday afternoon.
On a chilly day at the par-72 Gold Mountain Golf Club, the Waves recorded a 290, led by three players in the top-10 and all five in the top-21.
Kaleiya Romero shot a 2-under 70 and is in fourth heading into the second-round tomorrow. Additionally, two from BYU and one from San Francisco shot 3-under for a share of the lead.
The Waves have a 4-stroke lead over Gonzaga in third and are chasing a 7-stroke BYU lead. Pepperdine is going for its league-best 20
th WCC title at the 26
th tournament being held.
PLAYER SCORES
- Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) shot a 2-under and had four eagles. She is only 1-stroke out of a tie for the lead.
- Senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) finished even par with a 72 to tie for seventh. She had three birdies.
- Junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for ninth with a 1-over 73. She marked four birdies throughout the round.
- Freshman Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) shot 3-over to tie for 16th. She birdied the second and 13th holes.
- Sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 21st after a 6-over 78 and had three birdies.
UP NEXT
Pepperdine will be paired with Gonzaga and BYU for the second-round tomorrow, teeing off on the first hole starting at 8:20 a.m.
