Waves Head to Fullerton for Battle in the OC

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's and women's track teams are heading to Fullerton for the Battle in the OC. The Waves are coming off a strong showing at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific.

The meet is hosted by Cal State Fullerton at the Titan Track Complex on Thursday, April 20. Running events will begin at 5 p.m. and the Waves first race will be the women's 4x400m starting at 5 p.m.

LAST TIME RUNNING

The Waves last competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 14-15 and earned a new school record, continued to rewrite the program all-time lists and set new personal records throughout both days on the track.

Junior William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS), freshman Ryan Fabian (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS), freshman Spencer Mueller and junior Ryan Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./RedwoodHS) set the new school record in the men's 4x400m relay in a time of 3:20.72. The previous program record stood at 3:22.78 and was set in 2019 by Connor Shahadi (2019-20), Kieran Halewyn (2018-19), Brandon Davis (2018-20) and Treet Allison (2017-19) at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Fabian also collected a second-place finish in his heat in the 800m with a time of 1:52.68, which is a personal record and keeps him third on the all-time list.

Junior Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) ran a personal record in the men's 10,000m in a time of 30:19.50, which beats his previous time by 7.31 seconds and keeps his name second on the all-time list. Graduate student Will Bullock (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS/Eastern Illinois) also competed in the men's 10,000m with a time of 31:44.89, which marks his name seventh on the all-time list. The women's 10,000m followed with senior Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) running a personal record time of 38:38.47, which keeps her sixth on the all-time list.

Freshmen Patrick Thomas (Paso Robles, Calif./Mission College Prep) and Joshua Bergers (Cohasset, Mass./IMG Academy) each ran personal records in the men's 5,000m. Thomas ran a 14:41.19, which is good for sixth on the all-time list and Bergers crossed in a time of 14:49.88, which marked his name eighth on the all-time list. Thomas also earned a personal record in the men's 1,500m in a time of 3:57.65 and now sits fifth on the all-time list.

Sophomore Eden Mittelsdorf (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) ran in the women's 5,000m posting a personal record time of 18:05.29 and put her eighth on the all-time list. Mittelsdorf collected a second personal record in the women's 1,500m in a time of 4:54.69. Freshman Ashley Eagan (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg HS) also had a personal record in the 1,500m with a time of 4:59.86. Senior Olivia Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS) also had two personal records at the Bryan Clay. Miller beat her 800m personal record she set a week prior to competing in Azusa by 2.003 seconds and now sits second on the all-time list with a time of 2:14.48. Miller nearly notched a new school record, but was 0.05 seconds away in the women's 1,500m with a time of 4:34.37. This time is a new personal record and keeps her name second on the Pepperdine all-time list, right behind current head coach Lauren Floris who holds the record.
