FAIRFAX, Calif. – Though rain delayed play during the first round of the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational, the #23 Pepperdine women's golf team was able to get through one and a half rounds on Monday. The Waves will head into the final day of competition in fifth place through holes six to 12 of the second round.
The Waves finished the first round at the par 72, 6,157-yard Meadow Club in fourth place with a 6-over 294, just one shot behind #5 San Jose State in third place. Pepperdine started to make moves in the second round, shooting 3-under, though other teams were battling it out in the elements as well.
The Waves have two players in the top-15, led by freshman
Jeneath Wong who is tied for fourth after a 70 in the first round and is still 2-under halfway through the second round. The team is two strokes behind Texas Tech in fourth and 11 away from top-ranked Stanford. There are 13 teams and 75 golfers competing.
PLAYER SCORES
- Freshman Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) posted five birdies in the first round and has had two more in the second round. She has stayed even at par in the second round to this point.
- Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for 15th, having moved up 12 spots from the first round, where she shot a 74. She is 1-over overall and has shot 2-under so far in the second round after tallying four birdies.
- Sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 32nd. She shot 77 in the first round and is 1-under in the second round. She marked three birdies throughout the day.
- Junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 40th with a 77 in the first round, shooting 5-over though 11 holes of the second round.
- Freshman Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 48th. After posting a 72 in the first round, she has shot 6-over through 10 holes.

The Waves will continue on with the second round tomorrow, before completing the third and final round shortly after.
