Waves Grind Out 4-1 Win Over Pacific

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's tennis program continued its strong play with a 4-1 win over Pacific on Friday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Pepperdine (9-7, 2-0 WCC) jumped on Pacific (4-10, 1-3 WCC) early in doubles as court one's pair of Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) and Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) opened the match with a 6-1 win. After Pacific took court three, the Waves clinched the doubles point thanks to Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) and Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) winning 6-3 on court two.

The teams battled back and forth in singles, as each side won three first sets. Robert Shelton (Lancaster, Penn.) doubled the Waves' lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court five over Riley Hillenbrand.

Pacific cut the lead in half with a straight-set win on court one before Max Wuelfing (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) responded by taking down Coby McCaig 6-4, 6-4 on court six. This was Wuelfing's first career dual singles victory.

With Pepperdine leading 3-1, Homberg clinched the Waves' win with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 triumph on court three over Tiago Silva.
