Men's Tennis Defeats Saint Mary's For Fourth Straight Win

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's tennis program started 3-0 in West Coast Conference action for the third consecutive season after a 4-1 win against Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Doubles were extremely close across all three courts to open the match. Saint Mary's (3-10, 2-3 WCC) struck first, earning a 6-4 win on court one and a 7-5 victory on court three to win the doubles point and gain the early advantage.

Pepperdine (10-7, 3-0 WCC) rallied in singles, winning all six first sets. Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) tied the match at one apiece with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court four over Mathis Moysan. Robert Shelton then (Lancaster, Penn.) gave the Waves their first lead of the day with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Felipe Rincon on court six. In two matches over the weekend, Shelton only dropped five games total.

Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) then doubled the lead with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Diego Jarry on court two. The Gaels would not go away, however, forcing third sets on courts one, three and five to stay alive.

Linus Carlsson Halldin (Stockholm, Sweden) won the first dual singles match of his career to clinch the Pepperdine win, defeating Caelan Potts 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on court five.
