LAHAINA, Hawai'i – The #25 Pepperdine women's golf is off to a hot start at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, played at the par-72, 6,013-yard Kā'anapali Golf Course, finishing second after the first round of action with a score of 284.
 
The Waves shot 4-under collectively on Monday, led by both Lion Higo and Yingzhi Zhu in the top-10.  Higo finished the day tied for sixth with a 3-under 69, while Zhu was good for a 2-under 70 to start the tournament tied for 10^th.
 
Pepperdine leads #30 UCLA by two strokes and West Coast Conference's Santa Clara by three.  Other WCC schools are BYU, San Francisco and Gonzaga who are 7^th, tied-8^th and tied-10^th respectively.  Denver leads the pack with a 13-under 275 day one.
 
PLAYER SCORES

• Junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for sixth-place after shooting 69 in the first round.  She had four birdies for her 3-under. 
• Freshman Yingzhi Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 10^th after a 2-under 70 to start things off.  She posted three birdies.
• Sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 29^th.  She shot even with par in the opening round and had three birdies on the day.
• Senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for 36^th.  She had two birdies en route to a 1-over 73.
• Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for 40^th, having shot 2-over for a score of 74.  She had five birdies throughout, including four on the front nine alone.
• Sophomore KaYee Kwok (Tianjin, China) played as an individual, finishing 11-over for 77^th with one birdie.

UP NEXT
The Waves will continue on with the tournament tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m. PT on holes one through three.  The team will be paired with Denver and UCLA for the second round.
