MALIBU, Calif. – Shane Telfer of the Pepperdine baseball team was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced. Telfer had an outstanding performance in game one against Gonzaga as the Waves shut out the Bulldogs 15-0. This was the largest shutout margin for Pepperdine over the Zags all-time.
Telfer, a left-handed pitcher from San Diego Calif., made his sixth start this season on Friday throwing 6.0 scoreless innings against the Zags and only allowing two hits. He faced 24 batters and struck out eight, which was two shy from his career-high. During Friday's game, Telfer only allowed one hit in the top of the first inning and did not allow another for Gonzaga until the top of the fifth inning. He earned his third win on the season, leading the Waves with an overall record of 3-0.
This marks the second honor of his career, and the second for Pepperdine this season.
Ryan Johnson was named WCC Player of the Week on March 6.
The Waves play a midweek contest at CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and the game will be on ESPN+.
