Waves Open Outdoor Season in Long Beach

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's and women's track teams are heading to Long Beach to open the outdoor season at the Beach Opener on Saturday.

The meet is hosted by Long Beach State at the Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, Calif., with running events beginning at 10 a.m.

After three indoor meets for the women, this will be the first competition of the season for the Pepperdine men.

Pepperdine closed out the indoor season at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Spokane, Wash., at The Podium. This season marks the first that the Waves have competed as part of the MPSF.

Senior Olivia Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS) and sophomore Kaley Peterson (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis HS) highlighted the meet by notching new school records. Miller now holds the Pepperdine indoor mile school record after she clocked in at 5:10.33, which is also a personal record. Peterson crossed the finish line in the indoor 200 meters in a time of 25.11 for the new school record and personal record. She also ran in the 60 meters with a time of 7.89.

Freshman Mia Skuraton (Mendham, N.J./Perkiomen School) had the team's best time in the 400 meters, with a time of 1:00.72, which is also a personal record. Freshman Caroline Graham (Hockessin, Del./Delaware Military Academy) notched a personal record and the squad's fastest time in the 800 meters coming in at 2:29.17.

Sophomore Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) and senior Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) both ran in different distance events at the MPSF Championships. LaCamera competed in the 3,000 meters, collecting a time of 10:43.41. Danley was in the 5,000 meters crossing the finish line at 18:39.93.

The Waves had a squad in both the 4x400 meter relay and the distance medley relay. Representing the Waves in the 4x400m was Peterson, sophomore Whitney Johnson (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo HS), Skuraton and freshman Jenna Parsio (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro HS) finishing in a time of 4:04.84. In the distance medley, the squad that ran for Pepperdine were freshman Abby Winter (Edina, Minn./Southwest Christian HS), Parsio, Johnson and Miller, collecting a time of 12:52.50.
