Jasper Garners AVCA National Player of the Week Acclaim

MALIBU, Calif. – Jaylen Jasper of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team garnered his first-ever American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week honor, as announced the AVCA Tuesday morning.

The last time the Waves received recognition of this kind was in 2021, when Austin Wilmot (3/16) and Spencer Wickens (3/30) each earned the honor.  All-time since 1999, 18 separate Waves have earned 33 national player of the week nods, including head coach Jonathan Winder who garnered the accolade once in each 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Jasper had garnered four Mountain Pacific Sports Federation offensive weekly honors this season as well, including recognition this week for his commanding performance helping the Waves down previously undefeated and #5-ranked Grand Canyon at home last week.

Jasper averaged 5.30 kills and 5.45 points per set, marking 54.5 total points, fueled by a 53 kills effort and a .536 hitting percentage in 10 sets.  In the opener, he posted his second career 30-kill effort and did so on a .578 success rate with only four errors on 45 swings.  Then in the second matchup against the Lopes, he posted another 20+ kill mark with 23 kills on a .487 clip, adding three digs and two blocks as well.

The Waves travel to Honolulu this week to challenge top-ranked Hawai'i on Wednesday and Friday.
