SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced Pepperdine men's basketball alum Dwayne Polee will be inducted into the 2024 WCC Hall of Honor, set for Saturday, March 9.
The 14th WCC Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony will take place at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada during the WCC Basketball Championships.
Polee is the fourth men's basketball player to be inducted into the WCC Hall of Honor, joining all-time Pepperdine greats Doug Christie, Dana Jones, Dane Suttle and William "Bird" Averitt.
After transferring to Pepperdine from UNLV, Polee made an immediate impact for the Waves. In 89 games with Pepperdine, Polee averaged 14.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while leading the Waves to back-to-back WCC titles in 1984-86. The dynamic point guard from Los Angeles was named WCC Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons, becoming the first Wave to accomplish that feat.
All told, he was a two-time WCC Player of the Year, a two-time All-WCC First Team Selection and a four-time WCC Player of the Week award winner. He was an AP/UPI All-American honorable mention selection as a senior, plus he made the NABC's All-District team as a junior and as a senior.
During his senior year, Polee led the team in scoring (15.7 points per game) and steals (1.5 steals per game) and helped the Waves make the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for just the second time in program history. Pepperdine finished the season on a nine-game win streak in WCC play to earn a 12-seed in the 1986 NCAA Tournament, where they fell in a close game with 5-seed Maryland.
The 6-foot-5 guard still holds a myriad of career, season and single-game records for the Waves. He finished ranked 10th with 354 career free throws and 27th with 1,274 total points. In single-game records, his 15 assists against Abilene Christian (12/3/84) rank third and his six steals in an earlier game against Abilene Christian (12/2/83) are tied for fourth. His streak of 29 games in a row with 10 points is tied for the ninth-longest streak in program history and his consecutive games with 10 or more assists is tied for second-best at Pepperdine.
Polee graduated from Pepperdine with a degree in physical education. The Los Angeles Clippers selected Polee in the third round (54th pick) of the 1986 NBA Draft, where he appeared in one season before playing internationally for Colima Lemaneros (Mexico) from 1989-91. He was also a member of the U.S. traveling team in Europe from 1987-89.
Other inductees in the 2024 WCC Hall of Honor class include Gonzaga's Cheska Fairbanks (women's cross country), LMU's Anthony Ireland (men's basketball), Pacific's John Dunning (women's volleyball head coach), Portland's Rob Conner (men's cross country head coach), Saint Mary's Omar Samhan (men's basketball), San Diego's Stan Washington (men's basketball), San Francisco's Luis Sagastume (men's soccer) and Santa Clara's Julie Ertz (women's soccer).
