
Perez, Briede Set to Compete at the AVCA Fall Pairs Championship

MALIBU, Calif. — The duo of senior Kristine Briede (Balozi, Latvia/Riga State Gymnasium No. 2) and sophomore Gabriella Perez (Loomis, Calif./Del Oro HS), of the Pepperdine beach volleyball team, is set to compete at the AVCA Fall Pairs Championship this weekend in Huntsville, Ala.

The championship consists of 64 pairs and begins with pool play on Friday Nov. 3. It will then be followed by bracket play on Saturday and Sunday. The format guarantees that all pairs will compete each of the three days.Â
Briede and Perez come into the tournament as the 47th seed and will begin their weekend with a matchup against the 18th-seeded duo of Chloe Hoffman and Kate Reilly from Stanford at 7 a.m. PT. The Waves will then face off against the 15th-seeded pair from Hawaii at 10 a.m. PT., Pani Napoleon and Jaime Santer. Finally, Briede and Perez will wrap up pool play with a contest against the 50th-seeded Grace Cook and Hope Shannon from Arizona at 1 p.m. PT.
All matches in pool play will be in the format of match play (best two out of three). Sets one and two will be to 21, and the if necessary set three will be to 15. After Friday's competition of pool play, the championship will shift to bracket play on Saturday and Sunday.
